All shells have been picked off the shores of Ni’ihau by the native people.
This lei is tied in Kipona Style, using a mix of two styles Pikake and Maunaloa.
This lei consists of Ke’oke’o (Off white), ‘Onikiniki ‘Ele’ele (Spotted Black), and Uliuli (Grayish blue) momi shells and ‘Akala Pua (Patterned Pink), ‘Oma’oma’o (Patterned green), Maku’e (Brown), and Kamoa (Yellow) Kahelelani shells.
It is approx. 20-inch long. Closed with two Poleholeho (Bumpy Cowries) with a 14k gold hook and eye clasp.
All shells are picked and made by native families of Ni’ihau. In accordance with Hawai’i state law, H.B. No. 2569, all shells in this piece contain at least 80% Ni’ihau shells and are made in Hawai’i. The percentage of shells from Ni’ihau is 100%.
