Proudly located on Hawai'i Island

Shaina Makai founder Shaina Matsuura created the small swimwear brand located in Hilo after she graduated from college at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City in 2020. She also studied Fashion design and got the opportunity to go abroad to Florence, Italy, and Sydney, Australia.

Shaina decided to start Shaina Makai during her third year at FIT because she wanted to bring her passion for fashion and her world experiences back home to Hawaii. She also wanted to integrate everything she had learned into her designs to produce comfortable yet fashion-forward swimwear for all body types.
