This Privacy Policy describes how themakeke.com (the “Site,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, and discloses your Personal Information when you visit, subscribe, or make a purchase from the Site.

For visitors accessing our former domain popupmakeke.com, please note that it now redirects to themakeke.com, operated by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement. The same privacy practices described below apply to both domains.

Email Marketing and Partnership Sharing

When you subscribe to our email list, you consent to receive marketing communications from The Mākeke and acknowledge that your email address may also be shared with:
- Nā Mea Hawaiʻi, a trusted retail partner, for the purpose of sending you promotional content, special offers, and updates related to Hawaiian-made products; and
- The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA), for updates about other CNHA projects, programs, events, and initiatives that support Native Hawaiian communities.

Your email address will be shared only for marketing and informational purposes and will not be sold or disclosed to any other third parties without your consent.
Both The Mākeke, CNHA, and Nā Mea Hawaiʻi comply with applicable privacy and anti-spam laws, including the CAN-SPAM Act.

All marketing emails include the sender’s physical mailing address and a clear option to unsubscribe.
You may opt out of receiving marketing emails from The Mākeke, CNHA, or Nā Mea Hawaiʻi at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in those emails or contacting us at support@themakeke.com.
Opt-out requests are processed within ten (10) business days.

Behavioural Advertising

We use your Personal Information to provide targeted advertisements or marketing communications we believe may be of interest to you.
You can opt out of targeted advertising by visiting Facebook, Google, or Bing Ad Settings or through the Digital Advertising Alliance’s opt-out portal at http://optout.aboutads.info/.

Using Personal Information

We use your Personal Information to provide our services to you, which includes offering products for sale, processing payments, shipping and fulfillment of orders, and keeping you up to date on new products, services, and marketing communications from The Mākeke, the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, and our trusted partner Nā Mea Hawaiʻi (if you have opted in).
In all commercial emails, we ensure accurate header information and subject lines that clearly reflect the content of the message.

Security and Breach Notification

We take commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your Personal Information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
In the event of a security breach affecting Personal Information of Hawaiʻi residents, we will provide notice as required by Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes Chapter 487N and applicable federal laws.

California residents may exercise their Right to Know and deletion requests under the CCPA.
Hawaiʻi residents may contact the Hawaiʻi Office of Consumer Protection if they believe their data has been misused.

As of May 2025, our primary online storefront has transitioned from popupmakeke.com to themakeke.com. Both domains are operated by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, and the same privacy practices apply to both.
