Kōlea (Pacific Golden-Plover)
These visitors spend most of their year here in Hawaiʻi but leave in April/May to their arctic nesting grounds and return to the islands in August/September after breeding season has concluded. This Kōlea has its non-breeding plumage on, but when they are ready to head off for their breeding season, you see them in their "tuxedos" (black bellies and faces).
